Plans to increase Welsh medium education by more than a third over the next 14 years have been set out by the Welsh Government.

The first minister has called on the entire nation to take ownership of the language in order to meet the target. Ministers have already committed to nearly doubling the number of Welsh speakers over the next 30 years to one million.

The language strategy published on Tuesday will set out the details. The pledge has attracted cross-party support at the assembly. Currently 22% of seven-year-olds are being taught in Welsh-medium schools but ministers want it to rise to 30% at every level by 2030. If the expansion is achieved, it would mark the biggest increase in recent years.
